God’s Gifts in the Sky

Stop and talk to strangers

Dear Reader:

What a wonderful day I had yesterday. My friend, KC Myers, came to see me bearing a pizza… Oh Happy Day! But as much as I love pizza… it was conversing and catching up with KC that made the day.

KC is one of the sweetest people you will ever meet… she left me with one scriptural verse I love… especially two thoughts.

I Corinthians : 16

” No one knows the length of their life, so we need to work on the ” Breadth of it.”

Help us to see you… in other faces.”

… I told KC I was taking her back to the front desk lobby the ” secret shortcut way from my room.”

We cut across the courtyard …out my personal courtyard back door. With no wind blowing it actually felt nice cutting through … not as chilly as previous days with a strong wind.

The sun was coming down at a slant and an elderly gentleman had found and placed a chair perfectly in a location where the sun’s rays were hitting the side of his face. He looked so tranquil and serene with a half smile on his face.

We both murmured greetings to him and he opened his eyes and smiled… ” Just enjoying God’s gift to me.”

We smiled and went on…but when I returned shortly back along the same path… he opened both eyes saying ” Aren’t I the lucky one? I wanted so badly to sit outside but thought it would be too cold… but with no wind… God let me know He was sending his special celestial creation, the sun, as a gift to me.

God’s celestial gift…

Now here was a man who truly understood the ” breadth” of life … to trust in God to shine His Love upon him.

It was only a few minutes later I peeked out the French door windows to see if his face was still so serene … but the chair was empty and now in the shade but the ” breadth” of time… had been spent so wisely!

The chair now in the shadows.

So until tomorrow…

My favorite ” nook and cranny.”

A Clemson fan family sent this ( almost) Clemson Paw while vacationing in the Bahamas watching the sunset. Amazing!
Amen! Christmas is getting S… O … close!

About Becky Dingle

I was born a Tarheel but ended up a Sandlapper. My grandparents were cotton farmers in Laurens, South Carolina and it was in my grandmother’s house that my love of storytelling began beside an old Franklin stove. When I graduated from Laurens High School, I attended Erskine College (Due West of what?) and would later get my Masters Degree in Education/Social Studies from Charleston Southern. I am presently an adjunct professor/clinical supervisor at CSU and have also taught at the College of Charleston. For 28 years I taught Social Studies through storytelling. My philosophy matched Rudyard Kipling’s quote: “If history were taught in the form of stories, it would never be forgotten.” Today I still spread this message through workshops and presentations throughout the state. The secret of success in teaching social studies is always in the story. I want to keep learning and being surprised by life…it is the greatest teacher. Like Kermit said, “When you’re green you grow, when you’re ripe you rot.”
