Peek or Boo Matthew!

Dear Reader:

After putting up (what I thought was) all the “Boo” decorations I opened my linen closet to find a towel and out came more “Boo’s!”

How could I have forgotten my lit “Boo” sign….since it has batteries maybe I will leave it against the back wall of the porch to frighten “Matthew” away…or not.

I know all of us are praying Matthew will just give us a quick peek and then “boo” right on out of here. It certainly is everyone’s wish.

Tuesday I walked around the neighborhood taking fall and/or Halloween decorated pictures of doors, porches, etc. Then, I even, got in my car and found a really cool decorated house in the historic district of town on Sumter Avenue.

Before we probably all begin cleaning up (hopefully) just natural debris….let’s look at Pre-Matthew Halloween decorations.

My neighbor Vickie’s house across the street…

I found this beautiful mum arrangement on a side street in Tea Farm…while cutting through on my way home….wonder why I like it so much??????

The spooky decorations for this “webbed” look on Sumter had to be taken in sections since it was a long fence filled with all kinds of spooks.

On the way home from Dr. Montoya’s office I cut through Marion Avenue to Highway 17 and while I was waiting at the stop sign…I looked across the street and the prettiest autumn scene merged into my vision…there is just something about cool fences, orange pumpkins and corn stalks that take us all back to childhood and fun memories.

Closer to home, at the end of my street, Julie has adopted the webbed, ghoulie look too for her Halloween home!

And my Boo Dingle will stand tall and strong until I take it down before the storm hits….I want to keep that flag for future Halloweens.

So until tomorrow…By now most of us have made the decision to go or stay and with whom…so now let’s all hunker down and pray hard that the winds work for us keeping the storm off land and not against us…towards us.

About Becky Dingle

I was born a Tarheel but ended up a Sandlapper. My grandparents were cotton farmers in Laurens, South Carolina and it was in my grandmother’s house that my love of storytelling began beside an old Franklin stove. When I graduated from Laurens High School, I attended Erskine College (Due West of what?) and would later get my Masters Degree in Education/Social Studies from Charleston Southern. I am presently an adjunct professor/clinical supervisor at CSU and have also taught at the College of Charleston. For 28 years I taught Social Studies through storytelling. My philosophy matched Rudyard Kipling’s quote: “If history were taught in the form of stories, it would never be forgotten.” Today I still spread this message through workshops and presentations throughout the state. The secret of success in teaching social studies is always in the story. I want to keep learning and being surprised by life…it is the greatest teacher. Like Kermit said, “When you’re green you grow, when you’re ripe you rot.”

Be safe and I agree…stay away Matthew…we are all 26 or more years older than we were with Hugo…don’t know if we have the stamina to go without electricity for dsys or weks out
