Dear Reader:
I think sometimes people immediately think of travel as a substitute for the word ” adventure ” … and feel like they didn’t accomplish much in life if they didn’t travel
and experience the world up close and personal.
Helen Keller couldn’t see or hear any part of the world, since she was blind and deaf, yet she authored the blog title quote today. ” Life is a Daring Adventure or Nothing.”
I have been blessed to have been able to travel to several other countries through historical foundation scholarships and other ” seize the moment” opportunities.
I never regretted any decision to travel. However I think Helen Keller defined ” adventure” differently. Adventure is stretching ourselves outward to embrace the passion within us… waiting to be seen and heard.
My greatest challenge and adventure began after my ” little c” diagnosis and the birth of my first grandchild. It was this blog.
While teaching…my passion for stories and storytelling was met in the classroom and later while traveling and storytelling at educational, civic, community and historical conferences and conventions.
After I retired there was still one passion left-writing. With encouragement from friends and family, instructions from my son-in-law ( ” Now what IS a blog?) my greatest adventure and challenges began. That was over a decade ago and I have never regretted that leap of faith.
So until tomorrow… Don’t ever think that it is too late for another adventure in your life… as long as there is a passion left inside you wanting to get out… there is one more adventure waiting patiently for you to start!

Thanks, Becky. I have applied to attend Georgia State University for a MA in Religious Studies and Aging! It is a two-year program, and under the GSU-62 program for seniors, I can attend without paying tuition or fees, just books and labs. This week as I await an answer, I thought that maybe at 69, I am too old to go back to college, for would it be worth it if I can’t find work afterwards? Can I contribute and keep up with the youngsters? Am I ready for the adventure of learning Quantitative Methods and podcasting and other new technologies? I have a doctorate, so do I really need to learn more?
Your post made me smile, for it was like God answered me (talk about God winks!), and He said, “Listen to Becky. She got it right!” I love learning, and I have found that when I learn new things, God opens doors for me to use it, so here’s hoping I get accepted and start a new adventure.
You have got it…hands down ….while holding God’s Hand. And this was definitely a God Wink! Let me know as soon as you hear for we can do a “Shout-out” at your courage and adventuresome spirit!!! YOU MADE MY DAY!
I got accepted. Going back to college at 69! I am so excited, because they were “impressed” by my application. Well, when you have raised 5 younguns, completed a doctorate at 54, and taught college for nearly twenty years, you have some real experiences to share. Already looking to learn podcasting and Google Docs and other technology that I will need to know before I start on August 23. I needed some good news, as I have battled bronchitis for nearly three weeks, but, praise God, I am getting to normal. Keeping on my mask a little longer.
I am so happy and excited for you! You are so deserving and there is no doubt that a lot of good will come your decision for others! Congratulations! 🥰
