When Things Go Wrong…Stick Out Your Tongue!

Dear Reader:

When things go wrong…take a deep breath…salute your formidable opponent with good grace and then go to bed.

My plan, upon returning home last evening, was to gather all the fun pictures over the weekend and just make a fun collage of a snippet of life from this special birthday weekend…the good, the bad, the funny, the serious, the happy, and sad. Life…just amazing life in all its remarkable ambiguity.

…But my ‘oldie but goldie’ desk computer decided not to cooperate. Every time I tried to transfer a picture from my iPhone to the desk computer it wouldn’t open….that truly irritating blue “0” kept circling and circling and circling. I was so tired I was dosing off in between photos. At the rate I was going it would have been after midnight getting the post done.

It was not meant to be and in my sixth decade of life on earth I finally have learned…when things go wrong, and despite every effort to overcome the problem, it still just doesn’t work….stop…(not quit mind you)…but just pause and listen to the universe’s message of patience. Something is wrong with the timing …but tomorrow will be another day. And in this second go-around the timing will be in sync with the message.

Forcing things to happen when you want them to… just because you want them to…never pans out in life. Since I am a slow learner it has taken me almost a life-time to learn when to “hold and when to fold.”

*In the title picture Kaitlyn took of Jakie and me “eating” bubbles Saturday at the party (from Kaitlyn’s adorable edible bubble machine)…. we were sticking out our tongues  to capture a bubble while having the best time of our lives…so if that is the only picture that would transfer last night… then there was a reason for it.

We had the time of our lives at the party, in fact all the parties over the weekend….and special moments came fast and furious.

So until tomorrow…When life throw you bubbles stick your tongue out and eat them…and when computers throw you craziness… just stick our your tongue…period! Childish yes…but so satisfying! 🙂

P.S. And thank you, thank you, thank you, readers and friends for all the birthday cards….after giving up on the computer I remembered I had not checked my mail. It was almost 10:00 but I went to the mailbox and it was filled with cards.

The time spent reading my birthday cards was so much more satisfying than fighting an old computer. I went to bed feeling happy and blessed. But watch out computer the “Boo” is coming and this time she will prevail!!!!!!!!!!!!!

About Becky Dingle

I was born a Tarheel but ended up a Sandlapper. My grandparents were cotton farmers in Laurens, South Carolina and it was in my grandmother’s house that my love of storytelling began beside an old Franklin stove. When I graduated from Laurens High School, I attended Erskine College (Due West of what?) and would later get my Masters Degree in Education/Social Studies from Charleston Southern. I am presently an adjunct professor/clinical supervisor at CSU and have also taught at the College of Charleston. For 28 years I taught Social Studies through storytelling. My philosophy matched Rudyard Kipling’s quote: “If history were taught in the form of stories, it would never be forgotten.” Today I still spread this message through workshops and presentations throughout the state. The secret of success in teaching social studies is always in the story. I want to keep learning and being surprised by life…it is the greatest teacher. Like Kermit said, “When you’re green you grow, when you’re ripe you rot.”

I understand the phone deal. I was once able to put pictures from my phone, which isnt anything special, into my pc but not lately. I have had to go back to my camera. UGH!
