Putting Broken Hearts To Action

Dear Reader:

Some times it takes seeing someone else’s thoughts in written form to realize we are not alone in our own feelings-something akin to a broken heart-but not necessarily over a particular person … but a situation.

What really breaks my heart right now is how divided we are. How mean we are to one another. How critical we are of one another. How judgmental we are of each other and how angry we are at each other. Also, how lonely we all seem to be.

Yet underneath it all we are all longing for the same things! We are all longing to be accepted, to be seen and understood and to be invited into the space that unites us.

This space is filled with dreamers, explorers, teachers, doctors, mothers, fathers, the young and old.

The best way to bond is to understand that down deep we are more alike than different. We are more United than separate. Everyone wants to mend a broken heart.

This is not diminishing the idea that our anger is not justified, but putting anger into action for all ” we the people ” can allow our broken hearts coming together to heal and get back

to work… mending the crack in our divide.

So until tomorrow… “I do not need some tremendous miracle to give me faith in God, a Violet would do, or a spire of goldenrod, or a Daisy or two. But if I had to have magic and wonder, to render any doubts asunder, to prove God true… it would be you.”

About Becky Dingle

I was born a Tarheel but ended up a Sandlapper. My grandparents were cotton farmers in Laurens, South Carolina and it was in my grandmother’s house that my love of storytelling began beside an old Franklin stove. When I graduated from Laurens High School, I attended Erskine College (Due West of what?) and would later get my Masters Degree in Education/Social Studies from Charleston Southern. I am presently an adjunct professor/clinical supervisor at CSU and have also taught at the College of Charleston. For 28 years I taught Social Studies through storytelling. My philosophy matched Rudyard Kipling’s quote: “If history were taught in the form of stories, it would never be forgotten.” Today I still spread this message through workshops and presentations throughout the state. The secret of success in teaching social studies is always in the story. I want to keep learning and being surprised by life…it is the greatest teacher. Like Kermit said, “When you’re green you grow, when you’re ripe you rot.”

We just have to let our hearts guide us more…to find the basic traits we all admire…integrity, honesty and courage. We the People need to dig deeper and discover gold is re-finding our “soul.” Our country can do it. “In God We Trust.”

As a part of my morning, I have just read a prayer in The Spirit of St. Luke’s which talked about kindness, and then I read this post. Two songs popped in my head immediately: “What the world needs now is Love, sweet love” and Glenn Campbell’s “Let me be a little kinder” (Not sure of titles). I had to stop and listen to the words of the latter. Words like “Let me think more of my neighbor and a little less of me.” (Music and lyrics are the language of my soul. I remembered once at our church we were asked to pick out scriptures and songs we would like song at our funeral, and I had so many hymns, they would have been there way too long.) But I digress, with all the messages God sent me this morning, I truly hope my day will be filled with thoughts and deeds for others. Thank you, again for always, always leaving me with a positive thought for my day.
