Waiting on the “Book Keeper”

Dear Reader:

I read the most beautiful piece of prose over the weekend…something I wish I would have memorized, or at least   had available (to use as an guide) when all my children were out of school and dating … looking for that perfect someone (who they all found which makes Boo very happy!)

Quotes Love Daily.Com.

“There are two people you’ll meet in

your life. One will run a finger down

the index of who you are and jump

straight to the part of you that

peaks their interest.

The other will take his or her time reading through

every one of your chapters and maybe

fold corners of you that inspired them

most.

You will meet these two people;

it is a given.

It is the third that you’ll never see coming.

That one person who, not only finishes your

sentences, but keeps the book.”

……………………………………………………………………………………………………..

That last line touches my heart and soul. How romantic! A few hours after reading it and putting it on the blog post, however, I suddenly saw another perspective from these lines of prose. Isn’t God each of our own book keepers?

Isn’t God the One Who we  never see coming….the One Who can finish our sentences before we say them and the One Who is definitely keeping our book tucked away for that “special day” when we get to read it ourselves?

Don’t we have choices every day to search for God and find Him in the mentally challenged grocery boy with the big heart and constant smile on his face? On the face of the harried young mother who smiles with relief at a stranger waiting in the grocery line behind her …the one keeping her toddler laughing and giggling at magic acts to prevent the toddler from screaming or trying to climb out of the buggy?

Every day we make choices about what goes into our Book of Life…we can fill it with useless trivia, gossip, or even personal wall-building to keep others from interfering with our precious time, space on earth, or  planned events.

Or we can remember what the power of one kind act each and every day can do- “A single act of kindness throws out roots in all directions, and the roots spring up and make new trees.” -Amelia Earhart.

So until tomorrow…Let start planting a forest of kind acts together…think about how pretty the pictures will be in all of our “Books of Life.” A forest instead of barren land.

“Today is my favorite day”  Winnie the Pooh

*For the first time a large camellia bush/tree is blooming outside my computer window. It is located right behind the moon flower trellis. The blooms are too high to pick …but when they fall…their beauty lives on… (what are a few brown spots among “mature adults?:) These are the ones I like to put in a small water jar and let them enjoy their last few snippets of beauty and time on earth.

About Becky Dingle

I was born a Tarheel but ended up a Sandlapper. My grandparents were cotton farmers in Laurens, South Carolina and it was in my grandmother’s house that my love of storytelling began beside an old Franklin stove. When I graduated from Laurens High School, I attended Erskine College (Due West of what?) and would later get my Masters Degree in Education/Social Studies from Charleston Southern. I am presently an adjunct professor/clinical supervisor at CSU and have also taught at the College of Charleston. For 28 years I taught Social Studies through storytelling. My philosophy matched Rudyard Kipling’s quote: “If history were taught in the form of stories, it would never be forgotten.” Today I still spread this message through workshops and presentations throughout the state. The secret of success in teaching social studies is always in the story. I want to keep learning and being surprised by life…it is the greatest teacher. Like Kermit said, “When you’re green you grow, when you’re ripe you rot.”

    Good Monday morning, Becky!
I started to write something yesterday and got distracted, but I wanted to comment on your beautiful pink camellia bushes/trees! We had three white ones on one side of our house in Summerville and I just loved their fragrance when they popped out. Our neighbors also had several BIG white bushes/trees, but I don’t think I’ve ever seen the pink ones before. They are beautiful and I’m sure you’re loving their fragrance while they last inside. How I miss that smell!
I’m planning our landscaping and thinking of all the beautiful flowers, bushes, and trees that you have in your garden (as well as what others up here have) and, while I won’t be able to have as extensive a garden as you have, I am culling ideas from all your beautiful photos! I just added camellias to my list. Not sure if it can thrive up here, but I’ll find out! I’m also interested in the “Confederate Rose” bush – is that the name? That one intrigues me. We’ll see.
    Have a wonderful week!
    Much love,
    Sis

You are going through that wonderful stage now of planting…the imagination part….being able to pick and choose all the flowers you see, touch, and smell….your new long-time neighbors will be your best resource for what can and will thrive in your new habitat and surroundings…the nice thing about plants…their diversity assures us of beauty anywhere there is life. Can hardly wait to see how it all turns out.

I know…I must have read it over and over and over again….yesterday and every time I had shivers go down my back…that author nailed it….wish I knew the name…didn’t give it.
